Breathe the seawind! Let human cares go free!
Spread arms for the Breeze of Serenity!
As it passes through every island tree.

The Resort

D.J. Beach Resort is situated at the shoreline of the province of Sablayan. Probably it's the most homely or unpretentious resort in the area—having only one room with aircon—unlike other resorts which feature air-conditioned rooms. What the regular rooms have are electric fans. Of course, it is not just because of the ventilation that makes the place unpretentious, the bathrooms are simply made of polished cement and not tiles. The toilet bowls are not fanciful but they are effectively functional. There's no shower system except for the one room with aircon.

I have provided these details early at this point so those who would want to consider staying here would already have a better picture of what to expect. If you prefer fancy rooms and ventilation, this place may not be for your delicate taste.

The resort compound is significantly spacious compared to other resorts. Maybe the most spacious. The parking area can fit six cars. The resort has 9 rooms. Room 8 is the most expensive since it has tiled bathroom and TV (but we NEVER turn it on), it costs 800 pesos per night if you keep the aircon off and it cost 1,200 pesos if you want it turned on. Room 8 can accommodate four persons. The average cost for the rest of the rooms is 650 pesos per night.

The Beach Front and The Sea Huts

If we're not out on a trip to somewhere, we make sure that we spend time together in this place, we just transfer from hut to hut. These seahuts are a unique physical feature in the resort. We fondly call them 'Kubo sa Dagat', or in English 'Sea Huts'. So what's special about them? They can only be found in this resort! We really loved spending time there, most especially during SIESTA! Fresh winds breezing through the kubo and gentle waves are heard beneath!

Here you will discover that the resort's grassy beachfront already hosts fishes. And you will see more, including corals in the area near the Seahuts. This is the first time we experienced that corals are just steps away from the resort—approximately fifty metres away from the shore. We have travelled places but we have not found and experienced such rich waters—until we saw this place.

In one of our snorkelling time, we even found a large blue-coloured Lion Fish! And one morning, I even saw an octopus with head as large as my fist. And another time, before taking our siesta, two of my friends spotted a Pawikan's (sea turtle) head emerging from the water!

Images of the Resort in the Morning
When the Golden Sunrise hits the waters of Sablayan, its brightness enhances the wooden colours of the Seahuts, set against the backdraft of the Sea and Skies.

Image of the Resort in the Evening
The images of the Resort in the evening were equally enthralling. The actual sceneries were even more breathtaking.

Our Experience

Every time we go places during Summer and November, it is our habit to rent a place for a week and make it as our base camp. We already spent three consecutive Summers here2006 to 2008, and two consecutive Novembers2006 & 2007.

We were out most of the time but we had full confidence that none of our belongings will be stolen particularly the valuable ones. Whatever valuable stuff we leave including its position stays except for the beddings and pillows.

Let me say with all of my heart and with all of my simplest likings, that this is the best resort I've stayed in (I can only speak for myself, though a few of my friends would definitely agree with me). Allow me to qualify that statement. I can say that it is the best, not so much for its facility (though it has Sablayan's most unique resort feature which I already mentioned in The Resort section) but more particularly of its very warm reception and hospitality. The owners, the De Jesus Family, treated us as their own. We even call them Nanay (Mother) and Tatay (Father). Their reception and hospitality are the warmest I have experienced so far.

One more good thing about this haven—that whenever we come back from a trip and we look too tired to cook, they would always offer their service to cook for us—and what a MEAL! Fresh fish! You can always be assured that whenever they serve you fish its FRESSHHHH!

Room 8 is a favourite room to rent, not because of its comfort, but because it was our starting point. Above is our Fellowship Place where we spend lots of time talking but more particularly—EATING!

They also have a comfortable area where you can do your laundry. The water supply is excellent! The gentle breeze helps dry the clothes faster.

Oh, one more thing, but a very IMPORTANT thing—this resort can do without a VIDEOKE! Yes, remember that! Not actually WITHOUT a videoke, rather they will transfer it to where it will not disturb the guests! They would willingly do this for you if you tell them in advance that you really want a quiet ESCAPE.

SIESTA is always a delight—particularly if you'll spend it on the gentle waters of the sea. If you get the chance to visit the place, spend your catnap or your siesta in the Seahuts. I literally run out of words to describe the exhilarating pleasure of spending time here.

Swimming is equally pleasurable. The visibility of underwater life is clearer in the morning. We normally swim after taking siesta! The water is always warmwhether it's Summer or November.

I always look forward to coming back to this place!
